Using Join Codes

Ready to connect admins, teachers and students to your subscription?

The simplest and most effective method to add others to your Merge EDU subscription is by using Join Codes. There are three kinds of join codes - one used by administrators to join the subscription directly, one for teachers to join the subscription directly, and one used by students to join a class under that subscription.

This article will show you the step-by-step process for:

  • How administrators use the subscription join code
  • How teachers use the subscription join code
  • How students use the class join code

How to use the Administrator Join Code

There are two types of administrator join codes. The first kind is a district admin join code. You will have a district admin join code if you have a district subscription (a subscription that includes more than one school). If you have a single Lab or Schoolwide license that is not a district license, you will see the administrator join code.District_Admin_Join_Code.png

Administrators will be able to see all teachers, classes, and students that have been added to a subscription. They can also add classes of their own, or add classes for other teachers.

To find the administrator join codes, the subscription owner will need to get the it from the Merge Dashboard, then share with those they want to be administrators on their subscription:

  1. Go to https://dashboard.mergeedu.com on a web browser and sign in to the administrator account
  2. You can find the Administrator Join Code at the top of your Administrator Dashboard, under your username. Share this join code with anyone who you want to administer your subscription. 
  3. To add the Administrator Join Code to your account, scroll to the bottom of your screen and select either School Admin Join or District Admin join. Type in the join code and voila! You should be connected to the subscription as an admin.

How to use the Teacher Join Code

First, the subscription administrator will need to get the Teacher join code from the Merge Dashboard to share with their teachers:

  1. Go to https://dashboard.mergeedu.com on a web browser and sign in to the administrator account
  2. You can find the Teacher Join Code on the Teachers tab. Look in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Copy this code and share with the teachers you would like to add to your subscription.

Once the teachers have the subscription join code, they will need to enter it while creating their account. If a teacher already has a Merge EDU account, they should sign in and enter the code at the bottom of the screen where is says "Teacher Join."

If a teacher does not already have a Merge account, they should follow these steps:

  1. Go to dashboard.mergeedu.com/signup
  2. Enter the subscription join code in the space provided, then tap the arrow to proceed
    Note: your subscription join code should be 6 characters long
  3. Teachers should continue following the steps to create and activate their new Merge account. For more information on how to create an account, check out this help article.

How Students use the Class Join Code

Students must join a class to be connected to the Merge EDU Platform. Both administrators and teachers have the ability to create classes. Students will need to know the class join code for the class they need to join. This can be found on the administrator or teacher dashboard that created it:

  1. Go to https://dashboard.mergeedu.com on a web browser and sign in to the administrator account
  2. Tap on “Classes” - the class join code should be located to the right of the class name

Once students have the class join code, they can enter it on the Merge Dashboard either before or after they create their account.

If a student is creating a new Merge account, they should enter their Class Join Code upon creation, following these steps:

  1. Go to dashboard.mergeedu.com/signup
  2. Enter the class join code in the space provided, then tap the arrow to proceed
    Note: your class join code will be 5 characters long
  3. Students should continue following the steps to create and activate their new Merge account. For more information on how to create an account, check out this help article.

If a student has already created a Merge account, and is joining a new class, they can do so directly from the Dashboard, following these steps:

  1. Go to https://dashboard.mergeedu.com on a web browser and sign-in to your Merge student account
  2. Tap “Join A Class” on the left-side menu
  3. Enter the class join code in the space provided, then tap “Join”
    Note: your class join code should be 5 characters long
