Using Merge AI to Suggest Labels
When you upload or create a 3D object with Merge 3D, you can add your own custom multimedia labels to provide educational information and context to your object.
You can also use the Suggest Labels feature that uses Merge AI to name the visible parts of the 3D object and place markers for you to review. You decide which suggestions to keep, edit, or throw away.
Note: The Suggest Labels feature uses AI credits in your account. You may need to purchase more Merge AI credits to use the feature. Learn more about AI Credits Here.
How it Works
Merge AI looks at the model from several angles, names parts it can see, and drops a label on each one.
Existing labels already on the object are left as they are. New labels continue the numbering, so if the object already has labels 1 and 2, the first suggestion is 3.
While the suggestions are on screen, you can:
- Edit a label title or description.
- Deselect a suggestion you do not want.
- Select a suggestion in the list or on the model to see its pointer, then click the model to move it.
- Add the selected suggestions, or discard the whole set.
If you enter a science standard code, each suggestion includes a short note about which part of that standard it supports. That note is for your review. Parts that the standard names that are not on the model are listed with no marker.
Getting Started
- Sign into dashboard.merge3d.ai.
- Find the object in your library.
- Tap to open your object and select Edit in the upper right corner.
- Then tap the Labels tab.
- Under Suggest Labels, you can leave the standard and focus blank, or fill in either one. *See note below about adding the standard and focus.
- Click Suggest labels, and wait while the preview turns and the markers are placed. You can click the model during placement to correct a marker.
- Review the amber suggestions. Edit text, untick any you do not want, and select a label to reposition it.
- Click Add to save the ticked labels.
Adding Standards and a Focus
- Standard - Adding a curriculum standard code, such as 4-LS1-1 from NGSS, would then customize the labels to compliment the 4th grade standard to “Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.”
- Focus - Adding a focus is easy, and optional. It’s simply a short note about the lesson topic, such as “structures on a sea turtle that helps them survive for 4th grade.”
- The line above these fields shows the curriculum already set on your profile, school, or account. You can tap Change to update it in your profile settings.
If the Suggest Labels option is missing:
- An account admin may have turned off AI Features for your account.
- You may not have a Merge 3D license type that includes the feature.
- You many not have enough AI credits
