How to Import your 3D Model Directly from Sketchfab

Whether you are a teacher looking for the perfect 3D model for your next science lesson, a student bringing a project to life, or an institution looking to share your educational models with classrooms worldwide, this Sketchfab to Merge 3D integration is designed for you!

You must have both Merge Creator access and a Sketchfab account in order to import models from Sketchfab.

Follow the steps below to learn how it works:

  1. Sign into the Merge 3D Dashboard, select Uploader from the left side menu, then tap Import from Sketchfab.

2. Sign into your Sketchfab account.

3. After signing in, you will have two options for importing 3D models. If you have a library of objects you uploaded and saved on Sketchfab, you can select from your library directly.

To select from your library, tap My Library then tap to select the object you wish to upload.

If you do not have a library of your own 3D models on Sketchfab, you can simply Paste the URL of the object that you wish to import.

Note: When pasting URLs, the object will need to be both FREE and DOWNLOADABLE.

Paste the Sketchfab URL then tap Find Model.

4. Once the model has been selected, you will see the object preview screen. Here you can:

  •  Edit the object Title and Description before uploading. (Alternately, you can edit the title and description later as well).
  • Make it public - if you want to share this object with others, you will need to toggle the Make this object public setting.
  • Import Annotations - If the object has labels attached to it, you will be able to import them by making sure the Import Annotations box is checked.
  • Note: The Creator Attribution will be automatically added to the object description.

When ready, tap Import to Merge. It may take one to several minutes to import a model, depending on the size of the object.

For best results, ensure any model you upload is under 100MB.

5. After your object is done processing, you will see the Ready to Review screen. Tap Open in Viewer to see your model.

6. In the Object Viewer screen, you can do many things, like:

  • Interact with your 3D model using the various interaction modes like Head, Hands, Anaglyph 3D, and Cube mode. Learn more here.
  • Share your 3D model with others. Learn more here.
  • Add your 3D object to a collection. Learn more here.
  • Edit your 3D object title and description, add labels and more. Learn more here.
