Rostering with Classlink
ClassLink rostering allows administrators to sync schools, teachers, classes, and students from ClassLink into the Merge 3D Platform. Once configured, roster data can be kept up to date automatically, making it easier to manage users throughout the school year.
Before You Begin
To roster with ClassLink, you will need:
- An active Merge 3D Platform subscription that supports rostering.
- Administrator access to your ClassLink Management Console.
- The ability to configure sharing rules for the schools using Merge 3D Platform.
Step 1. Sign In to ClassLink and Add Merge
Sign in to your ClassLink account and add the Merge EDU application. Search for "Merge EDU" and select the appropriate application to add it to your ClassLink environment.
Note: Adding the Merge EDU application also enables ClassLink single sign-on for your users.
Step 2. Set Up Sharing Rules
After adding Merge EDU, configure your ClassLink sharing rules to include the schools that should be rostered in the Merge 3D Platform.
For example, if only one campus has a Merge subscription, only share information for that campus. If multiple campuses are included in your subscription, make sure the appropriate data is shared for each participating campus.
If you are unsure which schools should be included, contact your school's Merge subscription owner or email support@merge3d.ai .
How User Roles Are Matched in Merge 3D Platform
When roster information is imported from ClassLink, Merge 3D Platform uses the role information provided by ClassLink to determine each user's permission level. The following table explains how ClassLink user roles are matched to Merge 3D Platform permissions.
| ClassLink Role | Merge 3D Platform Permission |
|---|---|
| student | user |
| teacher | staff |
| aide | staff |
| administrator | district_admin if the user's organization includes the district; otherwise school_admin |
| guardian | parent_user |
| parent | parent_user |
| Any other role | user |
Administrator permissions: Users identified as administrators receive district_admin access when their roster information includes the district organization. Administrators associated only with a school organization receive school_admin access.
Note: Some ClassLink tenants may not support the district_admin or school_admin role information. If this information is unavailable, the rostering process will continue without preventing other users from being imported.
Step 3. Contact Merge to Complete Your Roster Setup
The self-service ClassLink rostering setup is currently being updated for the new Merge 3D Platform. While this feature is being re-added to the Dashboard, the Merge team can assist with connecting and configuring your ClassLink roster.
After your ClassLink sharing rules have been configured, contact support@merge3d.ai and provide your district or school name. Our team will help complete the connection and initial roster import.
Step 4. Verify Your Roster
Once your roster has been imported, sign in to the Merge 3D Platform as an administrator and verify that your schools, teachers, students, classes, and enrollments appear correctly.
You can review your roster using the Schools, Users, and other available management areas within the Merge 3D Platform.
Automatic Synchronization
After ClassLink rostering has been configured, roster changes can be synchronized automatically. This may include:
- New teachers and students
- Class enrollment changes
- New classes
- Removed users or classes
Note: The exact synchronization schedule and available rostering options may vary while the new self-service rostering feature is being completed.
Have Teachers and Students Sign In
Once rostering is complete, teachers and students can sign in to the Merge 3D Platform or the Merge apps using ClassLink. Signing in with ClassLink will help ensure they access the appropriate account and available content.
Troubleshooting
If your roster does not appear as expected:
- Verify that the correct schools and users are being shared with Merge in ClassLink.
- Confirm that users and classes exist within ClassLink.
- Allow time for the initial import or synchronization to complete.
- Contact Merge Support if changes are needed to your roster configuration.
If you continue experiencing issues, contact support@merge3d.ai with your district or school name and a description of the problem.
