The Merge Cube lets you hold digital 3D objects, enabling an entirely new way to learn and interact with the digital world. You have the option of purchasing a real Merge Cube, or printing and assembling your own Merge Paper Cube from home.
In this article, we will share everything you need to know about the Merge Cube and Merge Paper Cube:
- How the Merge Cube works
- The Merge Cube vs Paper Cube
- Where to purchase a Merge Cube
- How to download the Merge Paper Cube
The Merge Cube merges the physical and digital worlds using computer vision technology and the powerful camera and sensors in your mobile device. Simply download and launch a Merge EDU app, then point your device at the Merge Cube.
With the Merge Cube, you can explore a galaxy in the palm of your hand, hold fossils and ancient artifacts, explore a DNA molecule, investigate the Earth’s core, dissect a virtual frog, hold and share your own 3D creations, and much more!
The Merge Paper Cube is a free version of the Merge Cube, which can be printed and assembled. While we allow paper cubes for non-commercial, educational use, we don't recommend them for long-term use. However, paper cubes are useful for trying out Merge EDU apps or in remote learning situations where students may not have access to a real Merge Cube.
The real Merge Cube is precisely manufactured from a soft and squishy foam material, which can be purchased online. Using the real Merge Cube will make for a more positive and engaging experience, because the tracking performance enhances the believability of holding a real object. The softness of the foam makes the interaction more tangible and intuitive. Using a real Merge Cube makes a huge difference in experiencing the wonder and excitement of high-quality augmented reality. We highly recommend using the real Merge Cube whenever possible!

Have fun teaching with Merge!
