Using your Merge Cube with Merge 3D

With Merge 3D, students are not passive participants - they’re engaged in active, embodied learning.

In this article, we’ll share more information about using Merge Cube mode, which adds a tactile element to your interactive 3D experience!

Step 1. Sign in to the Merge 3D Dashboard

Visit dashboard.merge3D.ai and sign in.

Step 2. Select any 3D Model or Simulation

Select any 3D object or simulation from Merge EDU content, or your own 3D model from Merge Creator. For this example, I’ve selected a 3D object from Object Viewer.

Step 3. Activate Cube Mode

On the interaction screen for your digital object, tap the button that says “Cube” in the upper right corner to activate your device's camera. Be sure your camera is uncovered.

Step 4. Interact with the Merge Cube

If you are on a device with a front facing camera, the camera window will pop open and you will see your face. Simply hold your Merge Cube in front of the camera so the system can detect it. Now you’re holding a digital 3D object in your hand!

If your device also has a back-facing camera, simply tap the double circle icon in the upper left corner of the screen to swap cameras.

If you are on a touchscreen device, you can zoom in and out on the Merge Cube by tapping on the screen.

If you are on a device with a mouse or track pad, you will use that to zoom in.

Hold the Merge Cube in your hand and rotate it from all angles. Bring it closer to the device's camera to inspect it up close.

Step 4. Deactivate it When You’re Done Exploring

When you’re done exploring your 3D model or simulation in Cube Mode, simply tap the “Cube” button again to deactivate it.

Now that you know about cube mode, try using the other interaction modes in Merge 3D as well!
